What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it? (Book Cover attached)

Untaming the Cowboy

Since reading Brenda Jackson’s Westmoreland and Madaris family sagas, I’ve wanted to write a cowboy romance. So when Peyton Banks reached out about joining Season 2 of The Silver Creek Cowboys series, I didn’t hesitate. I told her, hell yeah! Where do I sign up?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?

Yes. I have a couple of habits I stick to when I’m drafting. I only listen to music from the book’s playlist or songs that match the story’s vibe, and I always keep my Pinterest board open for constant inspiration.

Are you a plotter or a pantster?

Both. I start out plotting, but somewhere along the way I end up pantsing. My characters have zero respect for staying in the lines, laughing at the idea of sticking to an outline.

What’s your writing process?

My writing process starts with the movie playing in my head, then I outline… kinda. I jot down a plan, then ignore it because the characters always act up. Then I’m doom scrolling on Pinterest boards for inspos, outfits, cars, and even scents. Sometimes I know what my characters smell like before I know their names. Lastly, I curate a playlist that keeps it all flowing. These are songs I’ve handpicked because they match the vibe, the mood, and whatever emotional temperature the story’s sitting in. I build chapters around those emotional beats. What’s the song saying? What’s the aesthetic? What’s the drama? How does it speak to what my characters are dealing with? The soundtrack helps me lock into the scene.

What are you looking forward to at IRAE?

Reconnecting with my author friends, giving love to the returning readers, meeting new readers, and of course this year’s theme. Can’t wait to see everyone and have fun as we always do. A time will be had!

Mo Flames is an author of contemporary romance. She is the author of the Enough series and of Untaming the Cowboy. She was born in Columbia, SC and has lived in Atlanta for eight years. When not writing, Mo can be found reading dark romance or romantic suspense stories, playing The Sims 4, watching any true crime drama, or traveling around the world with friends and family.
